An extensive extended journey through Australia was terminated days after the tragic passing of an older lady who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the group for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back several hours later after the ship staff realised the passenger was not present.

A major hunt discovered her person the following day.

Authorities are examining the incident, together with investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and crew on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated statement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Master" preventing any further travelers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in Cairns upon its coming back.

Chronology of Occurrences

The liner originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the first stop on the journey.

Passengers on the vessel - who typically pay large sums of dollars to take part in the expedition - were ferried there for a shore visit with the option of hiking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Response

The daughter of the victim said that her loved ones was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the island after an organised outing without my mum".

Via her announcement, she described her mum as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a walking club.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she hoped the examination would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have saved Mum's life".

"According to reports from the police that it was a very hot period, and mum became unwell on the hill climb," she explained.

"She was asked her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the vessel departed, apparently without performing a headcount.

"At some stage in that process, or not long after, mother died, alone."

Organization Reaction

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the organization was "working closely with authorities to aid their investigation".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its total backing to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Standards

The liner caters for up to a hundred twenty passengers with nearly fifty crew, according to company details. It was purpose-built to reach distant locations of the nation's shoreline and is fitted with "small boats" - minor craft used to ferry individuals on shore trips.

Incidents such as this are infrequent, and liners have protocols to record which individuals are getting on or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] aboard just isn't an option," an authority remarked.

Vessel operators regard these methods extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such occurrences from occurring," the authority added.

"This seems to be most likely a stunning - and unfortunate - single occurrence."
